Ian Watson, Mark Lee and Paul Highton entertained supporters with 90 minutes of Salford rugby tales and exploits from all over the globe. And then the supporters wrapped the night up with a pie and pea supper provided by the Old Nags Head, Irlam.
Supporters trust member Paul Whiteside opened the night with a Q and A with former Salford hero Mark Lee. They chatted about his 11 year career at Salford covering some real ‘good times’ for the club through the mid 90’s. Mark shared some fascinating and very funny stories as he looked back so fondly on his time at The Willows. Mark was and still is a real fans favourite with the Salford faithful.
It was then Ian Watson’s turn to address the audience as he talked of his early days at Eccles RLFC and his friendships with Adrian Morley, Nathan McAvoy and Carlo Napolitano. Paul Highton guided Ian through his playing career and they reminisced of their Wales International exploits.
Ian talked about his coaching philosophy and time with IIestyn Harris, Tim Sheens and now his working relationship with Willie Poaching and Martin Gleeson.
Ian rounded the night off by stating that the work ethics and heritage of the City of Salford are the culture he has been implementing at the Club and that it is paramount now for the Club, community and supporters to all come together as we move in to this new era of leadership at the Club.
A huge thank you from the Supporters’ Trust to those who contributed and attended – over £300 was raised for the U16s Rising Stars Programme and will be presented to Salford Red Devils Foundation at a future event.
