Awards Night

The Old Nags Head in Irlam was the venue as The Salford RLFC Supporters Trust held their player of the year awards. A fantastic turnout with fans of all ages enjoying the company of Head Coach Ian Watson and Director of Rugby Ian Blease. Our friends from Devil In The Detail Salford’s supporters Podcast Rob and Paul were on hand to host the event.

Ian Blease opened the night with a chat about the season’s highs and lows. Ian Watson then took to the stage to give his views on the challenges the squad and staff have faced this season. Ian is now fully focused on getting the job done tomorrow night in our critical home fixture with Toulouse.

The Young Player of The Year Award was presented by another stalwart among Salford supporters, Ian Archer. Josh Wood was a popular winner after a fantastic season that has seen him cement his place at hooker. On stage Ian compared Josh to former Salford favourite Mick McTigue due to his all action style and the ferocious way he tackles much bigger opponents.

Finally The Player Of The Year Award went to The Star Man himself. A real fans favourite who always has a smile on his face. Superb in attack and defence this season winning countless man of the match awards, Robert Lui. Salford supporter and club DJ Andy Steele joined Robert on stage to present him with his award.

A very special award for his long standing work for Salford RLFC went to Norman who started off selling tickets for Salford RLFC before playing for Salford then becoming Timekeeper. This Season is going to be his last, the Award was made to Mr Norman Robinson for his service to the Club and collected on his behalf by Liam Robinson.

Some fantastic raffle prizes were won before the evening was rounded off by pie and peas.

Big thanks to all the supporters who came, the Supporters Trust volunteers who pulled together the event in the space a few weeks, John and Josh and the staff of the Old Nags Head for being amazing hosts, Steve McCormick for the great photos, the players and staff for taking the time out on a pivotal week to be part of a Super night for Salford RLFC.

Good luck to the lads tomorrow night in the match against Toulouse.

Paul Whiteside.
